Dalton State's Santiago Moore Named All-American

Wednesday, December 6, 2017

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 2017 NAIA Men's Soccer All-America teams on Tuesday. The NAIA All-America committee consists of the NAIA-Men's Soccer Coaches Association Executive Committee, the National Championship Games Committee and four men's soccer coaches.

Each team, first, second and third, consists of 11 members.

Santiago Moore represented Dalton State (Ga.), collecting Honorable Mention All-American honors. The honorable mention selection is a bit of a surprise, considering Moore led the NAIA in assist per game (1.0), while also ranking in the top five in total assist (#2 with 18), and total points per game (#3 with 2.67). Moore was also in the top ten in total points (#7 with 48), and recorded 15 goals, winning the SSAC Golden Boot Award.

Missouri Valley sophomore defender Uros Ilic was honored as the 2017 NAIA Men's Soccer National Player of the Year. The native of Nova Pazova, Serbia led the Vikings in goals scored this year with seven. Ilic helped Missouri Valley reach the title match of the 2017 NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship and is the first member of the Vikings to win the award. Ilic was named to the 2017 All-Tournament Team as well.

Oklahoma Wesleyan landed five individuals on the list, four of which were First Team All-Americans. Hastings (Neb.) had the next most with three individuals on the list.

The 2017 Select Sport America-NAIA National Coach of the Year will be announced at the United Soccer Coaches' Association National Convention on January 16.

Roy Exum: Want To Buy An AK-47?

On Sunday night I got an email from a reader who I enjoy that read, “How about, ‘Don’t sell assault weapons to 18-year-olds.’ The blood is on your hands (and all the other gun and violence idolaters)!” While I beg to disagree with him, this is a nation where – right now, this minute -- there are an estimated ONE TRILLION rounds of ammunition and over 300 million firearms.
