Cleveland State Baseball Splits With West Georgia Tech

Wednesday, April 19, 2017

Stormy weather resulted in Cleveland State hosting West Georgia Tech in a doubleheader on Wednesday, which the two teams split.

Cleveland State (29-14, 11-10) took game one 6-4, while West Georgia Tech defeated them 6-2 in game two.

“We continue to put ourselves behind in games because of inconsistent defense,” Cleveland State coach Mike Policastro said.

“Offensively, we have not swung the bats well the last week, so we are not where we need to be as a team heading down to the last week of the regular season.”

In the first game, the Cougars and the Golden Knights found themselves tied at two after the first inning.

West Georgia Tech took a 3-2 lead in the third inning, but Cleveland State drove in four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-3 lead.

The Golden Knights picked up their fourth and final run in the top of the fifth.
Jordan Ransom had two RBIs on a double and went 1-for-3 at the plate. Brett Browning was 2-for-3 at the plate, while Sean McDermott and John Sharpe each had an RBI.

Walker Malone (1-0) picked up the win from the mound, pitching in two innings.

In game two, the Cougars found themselves in a 6-0 hole after the top of the fourth.

They drove in a run in the fourth and fifth innings, but were unable to put together the offense needed to battle back against the Golden Knights.

Grant Crosby (5-3) took the loss, pitching in three innings.

The Cougars travel to Dyersburg State this weekend for their second to last conference series of the regular season.

Roy Exum: Always Know The Facts

I adore the fact so many of America’s high school and college students are very active in our battle against violence in our schools but bemoan the fact that when you combine youth and ‘lack of experience’ they often are misguided and ill-informed. The best example came on Saturday when a reporter for Campus Reform walked around the Cal State-Santa Barbara campus asking the students ... (click for more)
