Prep Baseball: McCallie Defeats Baylor, 12-6, Advances to State Tourney

Corbin Brooksbank and Cameron Costo combined for four hits and five RBIs to help guide McCallie to a 12-6 win against host Baylor Thursday to win the playoff series and advance to next week’s state tournament.

John Behrends, Jackson Mathis and Dane Beard also combined for six hits and four RBIs.

Baylor was led by Gunnar Ricketts and Cameron Wolfe who combined for four hits and two RBIs.

Behrends picked up the win in relief as he allowed two hits and one earned run with two strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work.

Baylor starter Wilson Maclellan was handed the loss as he allowed nine runs (5 earned) on six hits in 2.1 innings.

The host Red Raiders took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but McCallie scored two in the second and seven in the third for a 9-5 lead.

State Tournament: McCallie faces Briarcrest Tuesday at Wilson Central in the opening game of the state tournament.

Eppard, 32, Charged With Aggravated Statutory Rape After 17-Year-Old He Was Living With Has Baby

Police have charged 32-year-old Anthony John Eppard with aggravated statutory rape after the 17-year-old girl he was living with had a baby.
