What Was That Stone Arch Halfway Up Lookout Mountain?

As a child in the early- to mid-70s the majority of our summer vacations were to Tennessee - a stop in Chattanooga then on to Gatlinburg.  We always visited the Incline, Ruby Falls and Rock City.    On the way up Lookout Mountain, I’m not sure of the road, there was a stone/cement type monument along the roadway with what looked to be a tongue sticking out ... Remembering The Dupont, Hixson Pike, Access Road Section

I enjoy reading these stories that go back to the old days of Chattanooga. I live outside Atlanta now and work in the city.  I was a student at Dupont many years ago. We lived in the neighborhood between Lupton City and Dupont. My dad worked at the Dupont plant for 37 years.     The area you talked about with the trees became part of an expanded ... Roy Exum: The Coach Who Said ‘No’

I couldn’t tell you the first time I met John Gagliardi … 30 years ago? 40? … and I never saw him nearly enough. He was a Division III football coach at some monastery of a place in Minnesota and that’s a long way from the Southeastern Conference. Our orbits rarely overlapped but somewhere down the line we were at the same table for dinner. Once that happened, it seemed like the ... (click for more)
