Calling Rhonda Thurman And Joe Smith "Hateful" Says It All About UnifiEd

Monday, May 14, 2018

I have watched Rhonda Thurman for years as she served on the School Board, and Joe Smith and I grew up together. I haven't read all of the UnifiEd APEX report, but I did talk with Joe about it and heard his concerns before he and Rhonda said what they said last Friday.

But really, that doesn't matter to me. What bothers me is that the politics of UE includes slandering Joe and Rhonda. Joe is a man who has dedicated more than three decades of his life to saving struggling middle school boys with no father figure to love them. My goodness, I have been in his house when the 19 foster kids he and Paula raised were given a chance.

UE sent out a fundraiser email last Friday saying that what Rhonda and Joe thought about UE was "unacceptable, dangerous and hateful." What is unacceptable, dangerous and hateful is whatever UE's politics are. The UE Board lives here. They should have known better, and that Board owes Rhonda Thurman and Joe Smith a public apology.

I am writing to implore the Signal Mountain Town Council to follow the recommendation of the Planning Commission and deny the zoning request change of 617 Cauthen Way.  The addition of a 38,000 square foot Food City with 150 parking spaces will change the look of the mountain forever.  The natural flora and fauna will be destroyed and for what--a big box store that ... Donaldson Tells Jury He Shot Son-In-Law After Knife Was Pulled On Him; Medical Examiner Says Fatal Shot Was From 3 Inches Away

Glen Donaldson took the witness stand Thursday in the attempt to explain how two good friends ended up with one dead and the other facing a first-degree murder charge.   On the night of Dec. 29, 2016, he texted his son-in-law, Adam Levi, and arranged to pick up bed rails for his daughter, who had left items when she moved out of their house. After loading the rails, ... (click for more)

East Ridge Discussing New Animal Shelter, As Well As Field House At East Ridge High

Two new projects suggested by citizen groups dominated the discussion at the East Ridge City Council meeting  Thursday night. Because they were not published on the agenda, no decisions could be made, but the council was in agreement that more consideration was merited about the city building a new animal shelter and dog park, and for building a field house for athletics at ... MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Baylor School baseball team has been on a tear these past couple of weeks as they’ve been averaging double figures in runs scored and base hits. Baylor Wins Fourth Straight State Softball Title

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Baylor Lady Red Raiders and the GPS Bruisers have had some classic battles on the softball field in recent years, many times in the championship game of the Division II-Class AA portion of the state tournament. They met again on Thursday night on Starplex Field No. 3. Baylor won for the third time this year, but there’s really no way to adequately ... (click for more)
