UTC Women Picked Seventh In Preseason SoCon Soccer Poll

Thursday, August 9, 2018

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s soccer team was picked to finish seventh in the Southern Conference preseason poll the league office announced today.

The Mocs finished sixth last season posting with a 3-4-2 league record. UTC started seven or eight freshmen and sophomores last season and return 15 veterans to the roster. 2017 SoCon Freshman of the Year Chloe Arnold and second team all-conference performer Jordan Mueller highlight the Mocs returning players. Chattanooga added seven newcomers this season.

Samford received three first place votes and finished one point ahead of UNCG in the voting. The Spartans received five first place votes, finishing out of first place in the poll since 2011.

Furman was third in the voting with 68 points and two first place votes followed by Western Carolina (56) while ETSU and Mercer tied for fifth with 39 points, just one point ahead of the Mocs.

VMI (25), Wofford (23) and The Citadel (13) rounded out the voting.

Last season the Mocs’ posted wins over Western Carolina, Wofford and The Citadel and took Mercer and UNCG into double overtime draws. UTC advanced to the quarterfinal round of the SoCon Tournament, falling to the Spartans.

UNCG had three selected to the preseason all-conference team with Furman, Samford and Western Carolina each claiming two spots. ETSU and Wofford each added one selection to the 11-player list. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team or student-athletes.

Chattanooga will host Belmont Thursday afternoon in a preseason exhibition. The season opener will be August 17 at Finley Stadium in a 3:00 p.m. kickoff against Alabama A&M. Admission to all UTC home matches is free. There is a fee to park at Finley Stadium. Please be aware that Finley Stadium has implemented a clear bag policy.

I attended the meeting to discuss the placement of the sewage treatment plant at the Cambridge Center in Ooltewah today. My problem with the meeting (aka) dog and pony show, is that the meeting started out with the agenda of the Ooltewah Community Council.  After living in this area for 45+ years I have never heard of this group.  I would like for someone to answer ... Roy Exum: The Saturday Funnies

The reviews are good after we initiated “The Funny Video of the Week” but today let me take the liberty of sharing an oldie that I consider the funniest of all time. Please be aware the principals are speaking Polish, which you also need to know makes not a bit of difference. I have watched “The Polish Spoon Trick” at least 50 times because every time I watch the video it makes ... (click for more)
