The Rotary Club of Chattanooga Hamilton Place collected funds to purchase thirty solar lights to be given to children who live in homes without electricity near Stanford, South Africa.  These lights will replace candle light and enable the children to read and study.  Solar lights provide better lighting and safer conditions for homes with no electricity.  "Rotary is making a difference in the lives of children literally on the other side of the world as well as across our own communities with local service projects," officials said.

The club also celebrated two rotary club members who achieved a Paul Harris Fellow recognition. Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of $1,000 or more to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.
During the past 100 years, the Rotary Foundation has spent $3 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects such as efforts towards the eradication of polio, training future peacemakers, supporting clean water and strengthening local economics.

Nick Stembridge was honored as a first-time Paul Harris Fellow by contributing $1,000 to the Rotary Foundation.  Alan Johnston received a Paul Harris Fellow + 9, which means he contributed the initial $1,000 plus an additional $9,000.  Mr. Johnston exceeded the Paul Harris Fellow contribution level and was moved to a Major Donor status.  Additionally, Mr. Johnston designated $1,000 in honor of his wife Judy, to designate her as a first-time Paul Harris Fellow.  This type of designation is a program within Rotary that provides for any Rotarian to donate $1,000 to name another person as a Paul Harris Fellow.

"The Rotary Club of Chattanooga Hamilton Place is excited and proud to announce these Hamilton Place Rotary Club members' achievements as Paul Harris Fellows," officials said.
